Explain where the forecast went.
See how reforecasting modes respond to the same actual.

EstateMaster DM / documented Reforecast Mode behaviour.
I entered an actual. The forecast moved.
A £240,000 line is spread over four periods at £60,000 per period. The first actual is £30,000.
Check the line’s Reforecast Mode first. Automatic (A) mode redistributes the remaining balance across the remaining defined periods. Single (S) mode moves the difference into the next period. No Reforecasting (N) leaves the other future periods unchanged. Manual is not a freeze switch: it disables the input assumptions and resets the cash flow for manual entry.
The method you will practise
- Read the current mode before changing anything.
- Compare the actual, the remaining forecast and the total for that same cost line.
- Choose the treatment that matches the forecast decision. Do not select Manual merely to stop a redistribution.

Does the lower actual necessarily reduce the final forecast total?
Choose what you expect. The feedback will help you test your starting idea.
Change the reforecasting mode
Compare the cases below. Notice what changes, then read the explanation of why.
Original simplified illustration of a single evenly spread line, with no other overrides. Manual is omitted because you must enter its cash flow yourself.
A colleague suggests Manual to “freeze the forecast”. What do you explain?
Give me a hint
Read the current mode before changing anything.
Now try it in your software.
Read the mode on one cost line. Compare actuals, future periods and the total together. These examples assume an evenly spread line and no other overrides.
You can tell whether the movement is the configured forecast rule, rather than a data-entry error.
